Domain forwarding

Quick question people. If you create articles on other high ranking sites with backlink to your site and with certain keywords which relate to the keywords in your URL (and page obviously) does this help your ranking of those keywords? also if you then later create a 301 forward to a different domain will that new domain rank for those keywords slightly?

Also separate question. If you create a html forward from one domain to a specific page of another website, with a canonical tag in the header of the first domain then a do-not-follow tag for that page in the robot.txt file of the new domain. Does this prevent the problem of duplicate-content that a html forward normally has with google?

Yes, it's called relevance, and it matters.
A 301 forward redirects backlinks so yes, they're relevant to the orginal domain's topic

these are called links with exact match anchors,
you should actually keep it natural as it can cause total vanishing from the SERPs, especially for new websites with low authority,
if the domain/page has enough brand & naked anchors links, then adding one with an exact match would help for sure

It will rank, that's why buying an expired domain could be pretty profitable if you get the right one,
redirecting an actual live domain would be even safer/better

if the 1st domain is only redirected to the 2nd one with no content, then it will actually cause a problem instead,
canonical should point to the original page which contains the content,
if the 1st domain doesn't, then just redirect it and leave the canonical pointing to the 2nd domain

thanks man! in the above situation then would it be better to keep the domain live and html redirect it to a specific page (of the same products)? would that keep the first domain high in the google search? or is it better to just do a 301 forward?

if you want to keep the 1st domain ranking, then you should not redirect it,
redirecting will simply get it replaced by the one being redirected too,
if you really need to keep the 1st one ranking, you can cloak the users to the 2nd domain and hide the redirect from google
