Hello all, I am finally done lurking and starting to do. I have a site that is a legit information site and sees some (low volume) action. People have come to know the site though and I am disinclined to change the domain name, unless recommended.
Would I get the same benefit if I created a domain name based off of a keyword, with a higher local monthly searches and less competition, and forward the address to my primary domain? Is there a better way? I found a phrase that I can get the domain name for, I bought it already, and I still have the other domain that I just re-upped for another year.

Thanks for looking and thank you more should you decide to reply!

Well if you attach a domain to point to the same content directly, you will get penalized, so you would have to do a redirect instead.

Now that the domain is just redirecting, it doesn't actually contain any content, so you won't get much rank off of it.

I think best is to take your new domain set it as the domain you want for the site, then take the old one and redirect that one instead.

Thank you! Direct and to the point. Exactly what I was looking for.
