What is more effective for an affiliate site: using a new domain or acquiring an expired domain?

For quick growth, to avoid sandbox period it is good to go with an expired domain. But the domain has to be strong with a good history

Expired is always good, be it info blog or an affiliate website, only if the domain has not been spammed to death.
