Hey,

I'm interested in snapping up a domain name which is expiring, and the websites which show dropping domains all say it will drop today. However, when I check the Whois sites, they show that the domain doesn't expire for another year. I've never come across this before, has anyone else? It hasn't been re-registered, it shows no updates, and still shows the original reg date of a couple of years ago.

It's a .org, which according to threads across the web should have already dropped, so I wonder whether this is a glitch, or if it was bought through an auction after expiring rather than dropping.

Any thoughts? Not giving away the domain name in case it does drop :p

If you are bidding on domains at places like namejet or snapnames then renewals happen a lot. The auction usually gets cancelled just before the bidding when a domain has been renewed. I have been in a situation where I have paid for a domain but was refunded before the transfer took place as the original owner had renewed it.

It seems quite awkward, never seen that before. It will not be a regeistered one if its showing in dropped list.

Happened to me a lot of times! The registrar sometimes retains the domain name and sells it off at an auction. Godaddy does that with many domains. Some domains I was after got renewed by the registrar and didnt end up getting deleted :(

Many times it would show a 2012 expiry date when in fact it's dropping on time.

.ORG in particular show as "AVAILABLE" few hours before they drop!

check where its regged first, if at godaddy then godaddy will backorder, i think enom and netsol works with snapnames and so on

whats the registrar? many retain the domain to auction it off at times.

your best bet is to backorder the domain.

Ok..

So you have a EMD domain that is expiring soon listed on Nodaddy auctions. It's has ranked on the first page of G for a 12,100 GMS - 6,200 LMS exact match searches and has a PR 2 and is 2 years old.

Would you buy that expired domain? This is are trade ;)
