    Hi guys,

I am trying to build a local directory on a specific domain where there is little SEO competition. There is currently only one real competitor who has 3 directories on differents domains. Sometime up to 3 results are displayed by google for a domain, sometime only 1. I would have several questions for you if any of you could answer !

1/ In order to maximize the share of traffic for all the page, what is the best strategy ? Knowing that I already built a directory on this market, and without doing anything it appears on some results between position N°2 and 10, sometime with several results displayed from my domain for a given keyword):
-A : concentrate all my effort on only 1 directory and get it to the first page (however i doubt i will ever get sitelinks since it will be a local directory, hence whtih long tail traffic and I read that sitelinks only appear for high traffic keywords (is that right)
-B : build let's say up to 5 directories and try to get all the SERP positions (classical domain clustering) ?

2/My competitors' directories sometimes display up to 3 differents URL in SERP for a given keyword : how do I manage to do this in a consistent way ? (is it possible ? is it base on PR or something else ? I read that google display differents results in SERP if he thinks that they are "relevant", but that is not very clear. Should I create for a given keyword several non duplicated version of the same page with differnet URL such that google thinks they are all relevant ?

3/How to avoid being spam reported on that ? Especially, is it stupid if I decide to create let's say 5 different directoires (with different CSS, html, content etc...) to link them to the same Google Analytics account or will this have no effect ?

I would really need you help on these 3 points !

Most SEO's don't consider domain clustering too big a deal as many users don't visit the second page - where most of those clustered domain results tend to appear. The history of domain clustering is an interesting one though and shows the progress Google has made in balancing out the search results pages to achieve diversity in its returned listings. That history can also provide some insights into some common and popular SEO practices that you either might want to engage in or avoid outright.
