Domain buying question

Whenever I buy a domain name and am asked if I am going to use it for e-commerce or for personal use, I'm not really sure how I should answer it and just indicate that I'm not sure what for yet. Will telling the domain name seller that you will use your domain name to sell stuff online be helpful? Does it make a difference? What if you indicate you will use it for personal use and they somehow find out it's not true. Can you get banned or whatever? Thanks in advance for your replies!

Where do you get asked this question? I've bought and sold over a hundred domains, never come across this.

As far as I know: this shouldn't make a difference, whether you're registering a new name or buying from someone else.

If you do get asked, stay with your answer ; not sure, will decide later. It's none of their business.

And no, you won't get banned.

Like Keris said, you won't get into any trouble, so it doesn't make a difference.

I was asked this question when I bought some domain names from Yahoo. They have it as a yes or no question where you HAVE to pick an answer. I think GoDaddy does the same thing but it's been a while since I've bought anything from them.

Thats weird, though I don't think Godaddy does the same thing.

I don't recall being asked this question either.....either way, it shouldn't matter what you put for it.

I've never been asked this, but I think people are mistaken in saying it should not make a difference..... I agree that legally and in an ideal world it should not. But there is a possibility of Yahoo asking more $$$s when you renew an e-commerce domain than a non-commerce domain. Or giving you more probs "for your protection" when you want to transfer the domain outside...... Read their fine print to get a better idea..... Whenever asked something like this, my reaction is: why do they want to know this? The answer almost always has something to do with money..... (sorry about the dots - this platform i'm writing on does not support line breaks)
