I know both these authorities are different, but both help in ranking is what I've understood.

Having a Topical authority on a subject helps me in ranking for keywords on certain topics.

  1. So can we say that DA is to some extent influenced by TA?
  2. How far can TA take you when you have no DA and vice versa.
  3. Can TA over power DA?
  4. Is there a way to measure TA with some tool like Ahref?
  5. If given a Follow backlink with a good TA website would that add to DA?
Note: Please do share some readable articles if you know off to refer.

Mods sorry if I'm asking a very stupid question. Just learning stuff.

Domain Authority depends on huge factors. Some of the factors like backlinks, technical, on-page, off-page seo, topical authority, active social, digital PR etc. help boost website's domain authority. While Topical Authority is a part of Domain Authority. TA will definitely help boost DA of the website as it is one of the factor which influence optimization of the website.

TA nd DA for imo are different. a small website that has great topical relevance can outdo websites with higher DA, but there’s importance of authority link nd branding at scale.

DA is mainly a third party backlink metric while topical authority is about depth and relevance so I wouldn’t treat them as directly connected A relevant backlink can still be useful but I’d judge it by relevance and quality rather than DA alone.

DA and topical authority work differently. DA mainly reflects link strength, while topical authority comes from covering a subject well. Strong topical coverage can help without high DA, and relevant backlinks can improve overall authority, but neither guarantees rankings.

DA is mostly about backlinks, while topical authority is about how strong your site is on a topic. You can rank with low DA if your content is really good and relevant. Ideally, having both is best.

TA and DA are different, but both can help in different ways. TA is more about how well your site covers a topic.

DA measures your site's overall link strength and broad trust, while TA measures how deeply and comprehensively your content covers a specific subject. And both are important .

A followed backlink from a relevant site can improve your backlink profile and may increase your Ahrefs DR, but it does not directly increase Google’s ranking score.

Topical authority builds relevance while DA or DR mainly reflects backlink strength

You can rank with low DA if your topical relevance and content are strong

They are not the same thing brother. DA DR is a third party link while the topical authority is how well your site covers a subject.

A strong topical site can rank with low DR but links will still matter. A relevant backlink does help your rankings but it will not simply increase your topical authority.

DA/DR metrics are useful for people new to SEO. But once you understand SEO, you don't rely on them. You don't really choose backlinks based on these metrics.

The better question is
Is this website and this particular page actually good to my site?
You build topical authority by covering your topic in depth. not from simply getting links from high DA/DR websites.
So I would look at similar topics and the actual linking page first, and DA/DR only as a secondary metric.

They’re different things, but they can work together. A site with strong topical authority can rank even with a low DA if the content is relevant and useful. Similarly, a high DA alone won’t guarantee rankings. There’s no perfect tool to measure TA, but you can use Ahrefs, Semrush and your keyword/content coverage to estimate it.

DA is a Moz third-party metric based mainly on a site's link profile.

Topical Authority is about how deeply and comprehensively a site covers a particular subject. It isn't a standardized score like DA/DR,

A site can have strong topical relevance with relatively low DA and still rank well, especially for less competitive queries. Likewise, high DA doesn't guarantee rankings if topical relevance is weak.

A relevant followed backlink can potentially improve your DA because it contributes to your link profile, but the TA of the linking site isn't directly transferred into your DA

So, simply:

DA/DR = link-based authority
TA = topical depth/relevance

Both can work together, but neither automatically replaces the other.

I’d focus more on topical relevance than DA alone. A site with strong topical coverage and relevant links can perform well even without a high DA, while DA by itself doesn’t guarantee rankings.

Do not focus only on increasing DA. Build good content around your main topic and cover the important parts properly. This can help your site build authority and rank better over time.
