I keep reading different articles that it does matter some says its very small.

I know its better than a new domain cos of sand box

but i have for an 8 year old domain, exact match...

This have decent effect, if i smash a strong homepage link network to it?

I always thought that having an old domain actually matters.
Good to know that it doesn't actually matter much.

Domain names are like wine the older the domain the more expensive and important.

Older domain can let you get more backlinks without getting sandboxed.
I have known a gent who had got his site sand boxed and when it came out after a period of one and a half year or so he was automatically ranking very high for a number of keywords even though he had not performed any promotional work on it.
So older domains do have some advantage but nothing that a good SEO expert cant over come with a new domain :)

First, you already get some good backlinks. (I assume you don't buy hollow domain with no links.)
Second, having already backlinks, you can allow much more aggressive linkbuilding tactics.
And third, as many said above, you avoid sandbox.

How to check if the expred domain is being sandbox or penalized?
