Domain 301 Redirects on Link Juice

I have a keyword match domain - for example www.FullKeyword.com

This Keyword has a brand name in it and subsequently i will be penalized by the affiliate if i use it to host my affiliate site.

I want to use this www.FullKeyword.com to my benefit however and have some of its link juice pass to my www.OtherDomain.com website.

How can i do this?

I was thinking if i have a 301 .htaccess redirect from www.FullKeyword.com to www.OtherDomain.com it would be a benefit for my SEO efforts.

Would doing this help my www.OtherDomain.com site rank for my keyword "FullKeyword"?

Also would the www.FullKeyword.com domain be indexed in Google?

I'm hoping some pro can help answer some of these questions, because i know this section of the forum has some very knowledgeable people! Thanks guys.

Yes, that would be the way to do it.

Does fullkeyword.com rank for fullkeyword? If so, yes. If fullkeyword.com has no links and no traffic, there is no benefit other than type-ins.

Technically there is nothing to index, since this is a redirect. You are basically just transferring any traffic or link value from fullkeyword to otherdomain.

www.FullKeyword.com does not currently rank but it wont be hard to have it on the first page for my main keyword. If i do a 301 redirect and then throw lots of web2 "fullKeyword" anchor text backlinks at it would this work ok? Or does it need to be a legitimate website with actual content?

Yes, I am already doing this. The effect is not 100%, all the juice wont be passed on, but still worth it in your case. Also I am having better luck with a simple metarefreshed landing page, ie "blabltrademark.com has moved to a new domain which concentrates on trademark blabl and you can find it here"

That would probably work, but I would just build the backlinks to the new site instead of a 301 on the branded one.

You could keep the branded domain in your back pocket in case you need it later.

AFAIK 301 redirects pass only 1/4th of the linkjuice. Then again, if the offsite SEO for the keyword domain is solid, you'll benefit greatly.

If you want to use the keyword domain to your advantage then you need to set up the site, and do good onsite seo for it. But rather than linking from the keyword domain to your affiliate offer, just link it to a page on your other domain. Make sure all onpage factors are good and then do a backlinking campain to the keyword domain. That's the only way that you can get the keyword domain into the serps.

On your other domain, set up the page that your keyword domain is pointing to. Use that page to send your traffic to the offer. Just use a metarefresh on that page to redirect and then all the traffic will appear to the affiliate program to be coming from that page.

Be sure to set up a good site on the second domain, and do a good job on the seo for that site too. You should even include internal links to the metarefresh page so that you can explain all the traffic to your affiliate program. Setting up a metarefresh redirect is a common way to mask your ref link in the url so the affiliate program won't think anything of it.

Doing it that way you can work on getting two sites to rank high in the serps. Get to take advantage of the better domain name, and still have all the traffic going to the affiliate offer from the single domain you want it to be from.

In some cases you might even need to do a double metarefresh. Just do a search for faking the referer, or blanking the referer to find more ideas on how to accomplish what you want.

Of course that won't stop the affiliate program from finding your site in the serp, and then following the links to see where it's going. You can't have everything. lol.

Once you actually have some linkjuice flowing to the keyword domain and you get it ranked pretty good in the serp, then you could always do the 301 as you were originally thinking. That would basically transfer all the work you did on the keyword domain over to the second domain which should then give the second domain a boost in the serp.
