Would you do onsite seo like you normally would on a regular website, i assume there's some other tactics one can implement to gain more traffic to the store but what about building a website using amazon affiliate etc.

Just apply the best practices as you would with any other website... Make sure all your images are optimized via alt text too

Content is always king when engaging in SEO. Optimize all of your content. Just like what metajasonnn has said, even when it comes to the images you're using, make sure they're optimized. Maximize alt text.

As mentioned above, normal link building practices. Its going to be a bit harder because your pages will be less content heavy so make sure they're properly optimized as well and add unique content instead of just scraping Amazon. This is the reason a lot of these sites will use other traffic sources instead of organic search (adwords/social) but it can certainly be done. Again, optimized onsite SEO and a solid backlink campaign.

Amzon affiliate takes minimum 6 months time to build a successful site, so be patient.

Your going to have to get unique descriptions for each product if you want to rank, and that can be tricky and/or expensive.

Stop flagging your sig in every thread with your content is king and other useless advice, next time i report you for spamming

@OP you need to have a good product description, make sure you fill out your SEO title and description, i dont know what your selling but you could try to create a piece of generic content and spin that manually, i have done this with a ecommerce site for reclaimed wood products for a friend of mine, i created one piece of content of about 500 words explaining what reclaimed wood was and manually spun it it has a uniqueness of 60% and if very readable, it really doesn't matter as no-one is ever going to read that anyway.

TIP: Place that content as close to the bottom as possible so that your products stay above the fold. This way i got some rankings for generic keywords in the reclaimed wood niche.
