How do you handle the linkbuilding if you have many keywords to target?
I know how to rank 1, 2, 3 keywords but what happens if someone ask you to rank for +20 keywords (some difficult, some easy)? Do I have to work on them all at once?

I'll drop the difficult ones ... It is useless to work not fully committed on very hard KW.
You won't do it wrong for sure and you don't have to expect from result.

But, if this person is a customer and really ask you to do so, just tell him what you think about it, and do it anyway. Customer is the king ...

Make different pages to target separate kw's. Build links to each page with anchor text for the appropriate keyword.

You need to work separately for the key words. It will take time for the ranking of all key words. In On page you can use all the key words. In Article posting, Press release submission also you can use all of them at a time. But in the other methods its not possible to use all the key words at a time.

Its always better to work with few keywords but if you dont have a choice then you should work with few keywords at a time, not all together.

I've ranked up to 20 keywords for the same page in top 3. Takes very tight onpage SEO and content + a diverse backlink portfolio with proper anchor to page. Obviously the more competitive keywords need the most. I'm talking medium terms for the most part. I wouldn't try this in a super competitive market.

Obliviously your used to working with small niches (adsense + EMD probably).

What your talking about now is real SEO - you need to create some authority around the domain which isn't achieved by SB blasts and linkwheels.

A tip - create a content page for each one of the keywords - each page should also target a second keyword make sure your on-page is perfect. Then start your offsite work starting with the easiest keyword first and work up.

I'm assuming your talking about a client by the way you worded the OP. And no I am not talking adsense or EMD, I'm talking a "brand" domain with optimized page crafted around 800 word LSI content and tight meta data. Ranking up to 20 keywords and holding rankings.

    1) Keep focus
    2) You know how to rank 2-3kw. Then pick 2 easy kw (you need to show your client quick results) and 1 difficult. When the two easy is on page one, pick two new kw (rinse and repeat).
    3) Remember to save some of the easy kw, when working with a client. Because if you have a 6 month contract with 20 kw, then is it important that you can show progress every week. If you only "perform" the first 3 month due to easy kw, then will you have a hard time to prolong the contract with your client, after 6 month (when your contract expire).
