Does Youtube track our Mac address??

A tip for you all...it works for me...

I never have any more than 5 videos/account. When i do a new batch upload i go to internet cafes or use some other computer. c ip address is a factor but the MAC details are traceable. the videos will only usually get flagged from yt directly if they contradict the TOS. Still, to avoid that possible origin of flagging spend a morning driving round to internet cafes

it can find the most of user.

like most here i too thought dat clearing cookies
and changing ip does every trick m still confused
over the issue i cannot decide it for myself yet

So then. Does SMAC take care of this issue? Also I tried to install it and the programs says I don't have the proper permissions in my registry?

Where can I fin the registry and how and what do I change my permissions to. EX: Administrator, user etc. Thanks!

MAC to IP resolution is done using the ARP protocol. ARP is non-routable.

To track someone on the internet via their MAC address would require software, a worm, etc. to feedback the IP/MAC relationship to a central location.

To the OP how are you using the accounts? manually posting videos?

I believe YT is using LSO cookies to track. They are harder to delete. Get the FF plugin better privacy to block LSO cookies.

Unless you have any java based product that you installed from google or youtube then no they can not legally in anyone other way get your mac address - you would have to accept some user agreement for that and it is not in the youtube one.

I've noticed that Youtube started pushing their new Java-uploader recently (visually it's the same GUI as in regular uploader). If you agree to use this Java-uploader, then you allow them to track your MAC-address "legally". So I would recommend to uninstall Sun Java from all computers you are using to upload clips to Youtube. I've never seen any other way to know MAC-address - only JAVA-based code really worked.

And, of course, don't forget to remove regular cookies and LSO (ccleaner works fine for this) each time when you switch to another YT account.
 
Even though I'm Admin when I try to start up script I get this error:

The program uses Rich TextBox ActiveX Control (RichTx32.ocx), but does not include the ActiveX file in the setup package.

Extract RichTx32.ocx to the Windows\System32 folder.

If you still receive the error, register the RichTx32.ocx module using the following command (from Start, Run dialog):

You should see the message DllRegisterServer in C:\WINDOWS\system32\RICHTX32.OCX succeeded. after running the above command.
 
Not trying to sound like a jerk, but most people here don't know what they're talking about. No, Youtube does NOT use MAC addresses for tracking. They do, however, use Flash Cookies. This is what got you all identified even though you cleared cookies. Flash cookies are special cookies that you can't clear without going to Shockwave's website OR install the FireFox add-on: BetterPrivacy.

I suggest everyone in this thread to look Flash Cookies and BetterPrivacy up! Even if you disagree with me and think that Youtube DOES track MAC-Addresses, it's also proven that they use Flash Cookies, so you HAVE To look them up.
 
it's impossible for web apps to track mac address.
http protocol doesn't have it.
but it made possible with the help of toolbar or desktop apps (ie. chrome).

use virtual box to isolate the environment,
and firefox.
 
I have to react to some things that are not true, but still said in this thread. Before you flame, please make sure you read this and understand it completely. First lets finish this once and for all: nobody except your ISP cannot detect your MAC address on the Internet. Not a chance. Ok?

Secondly, programs installed on your computer, DO record and send information about your computer to their makers. They NOT ONLY send MAC address, but also machine UID's and stuff.

What is the solution for this? Since we are talking YT and big G here, uninstall all G software from your computer, like Picassa, Chrome, G toolbar, misc Firefox extensions etc. Google Earth doesn't have to be uninstalled, I am speaking that from my personal xp, BUT do not use it while u try to hide your identity.

Before you go on different ip, delete all history and cookies, and then visit:

I was hoping someone would mention this. One of the last posters talked about Flash cookies, which is what LSOs are basically.

This business about collecting MACs is a little out there. LSOs are more likely the issue, but I quoted the msg because they touched on something else. How were the accounts created?

If you were using some kind of tool, and that tool was broadcasting header data that screamed you were a bot, then how hard is it for youtube to setup its own bot to spot out that header data and delete those accounts?

I don't use betterprivacy... I prefer Click&Clean. It does the job of removing everything each time I shutdown my browser, which is just the way I like it, including the evil LSOs that track everything. LSOs are used not just by youtube for stuff like remembering your volume preferences etc, but by popular online gaming sites, ebay, and yes, google. LSOs don't need to broadcast your MAC, they just have to be there with each visit identifying you everytime.

I frequently login to multiple google accounts and the like, and I don't jump through hoops doing it. I simply shutdown my browser, and start a new session for that account. If I need to go to another one I close and open again, cookie,cache,LSO free.

Give it a go again without LSOs. Also see if you can do the same thing without your tool. Try setting up 10 or 20 manually and see if they stick.

I have only one question to everyone that believes MACs can be traced. If this is so, why have I never found a single one of these whatismyip type sites that are designed to show you just how 'exposed' your are offering to check and see if my mac address is 'exposed' the same way my IP broadcasts? I have been to well over a dozen of these types of sites to test out various proxies etc, but never have I seen an option to click and show my MAC.

Finally.. regarding googles collection of MACs. This was posted just last month:

In that blog post, and in a technical note sent to data protection authorities the same day, we said that while Google did collect publicly broadcast SSID information (the WiFi network name) and MAC addresses (the unique number given to a device like a WiFi router) using Street View cars, we did not collect payload data (information sent over the network). But it's now clear that we have been mistakenly collecting samples of payload data from open (i.e. non-password-protected) WiFi networks, even though we never used that data in any Google products.

That was from their official blog. As you can see, they have a super high tech method of gathering MAC data. They get guys driving around the streets and connect to WiFi networks and then being in the network, they can then get the MAC address. This was done with the purpose of the Street View project as a way to possibly help map where WiFi APs were located. Dayum... that seems almost like some kind of advanced alien type technology to discover our MAC address huh? :)

I am looking forward to OPs retest results.

No, simple as that, though if you have cookies etc many ways to track you, but They can't get the MAC address

Dude I just go to the link. Nothing there, they said we can see list of website we store but at my window nothing show up. Does it mean everything clean?

If google really trace our MAC, All spammer sure get banned long times ago. need the first victim to prove this :D
