Hi guys, does where you live affect your website's SEO rankings? I have a website aimed at visitors from the USA, but I keep getting visitors from my country instead.
I made a new website with the same niche, but this time I always used a VPN set to the USA and never turned it off. Now, most of my visitors are from the USA. Even my other website, which is in Malay, is getting visitors from the USA now. This is strange.

if google can't link your website to your location it shouldn't affect your rankings.

probably you're using a local server as hosting, or a server close to your location. This would explain why you're getting local traffic.

Another reason could be the TLD of your domain name. If you're using a ccTLD (co.uk, co.jp, .es, .ng, etc) you're basically telling google that your site targets your country and google are sending you local traffic as a result of this

I don't know what to say here, this is strange indeed...

Thank you for responding. I use a server located in the USA with a .com domain extension. I will not to use a VPN anymore to do internet activities. Let's see how my visitors are next month

Google will definitely know your location if you use their tools like analytics and search console. They use your location for youtube for example, but for serps they probably don't, but I'm not sure.

You using a vpn to handle your website has nothing to do with ranking in US.

Yes, it should be like that. But it's weird, Google seems to be watching... like, oh, since you're from country A, I'll give you visitors from there even if your content is in a different language

It's total bs, never heard of this thing. Would be stupid if it had a ranking signal.

never had a problem with that, what I had problem is targeting a specific state or city.
