Does X allow posting links? I don't see it when I post. Do you need to hit a certain threshold before you can post links? Are is it not allowed?

X allows users to share links in their tweets, but there are some limitations and guidelines to keep in mind:

- *Link shortening*: Twitter automatically shortens links to a standard format ((link unavailable)) to help track engagement and ensure safety.
- *Character limit*: Links count towards the 280-character limit in tweets.
- *Link safety*: Twitter scans links for potential security risks and may block or remove links that are deemed malicious.

It's allowed to share links on X but you may get limited really fast. This does usually show up in the notification tab on the left of your screen :P

Strictly speaking, yes they allow it but with some caveats, if you will. It's widely understood that you can't just slap on any link especially ones leading to low-trust domains, affiliate redirects, or links flagged as spam. I suppose you could add mature content or otherwise links leading to possible sources of community violations but they play fast and loose with mature content on that platform. Accounts with low reputation, no consistent history, suspicious activities, burner accounts usually have their links hidden, suppressed, or flagged entirely.
There are some strats you could do to better chances of your links getting through or minimising getting flagged of course, but as for an explanation that should about cover the basics.

if can i ask, what are these strats ?

Elon Musk has indicated that X's algorithm prioritizes content without links, such as images and videos.

You can check around here for people who have more experience on it than I do, but as far as reducing the chances that your links get suppressed or sent to the void, you could do one or more of the following:
Use or have a clean, reputable domain for one. Link shorteners are great but are so commonly abused they tend to get flagged by the system eventually (especially the free ones) so custom domains or reputable redirect services preferred.
Account warmup is an obvious one and should be done as best practice anyway (it has its own particulars you can look into since it varies what the best way to warmup an account is). On that note, avoid linking in the first few tweets, especially when warming up an account. Unless you know what you're doing I suppose.
Embed links in quote tweets or replies which some users swear by. Supposedly, this can sometimes avoid getting filtered out compared to dropping links on the original tweet but needs testing.
Avoid phrasing or words that are flagged as spam and the like, because of course you should.
Lastly, go use landing pages if you have direct affiliate links. Routing traffic through branded, content-rich landing pages is very much a plus.
Just a few off the top of my head and some I recall from previous conversations. Quite a few more I must have missed or failed to explain adequately but that should be the gist of it.

Yes, X (Twitter) allows posting links with no special threshold. Links are automatically shortened. However, posts with links may get less reach as the platform prefers keeping users onsite. To improve engagement, some put links in replies instead of main posts. Avoid posting spammy or harmful links to prevent blocks. Make sure URLs are correctly formatted.

Depends from what account you posting links and where are you posting it, most of accs without blue / gold status might go on "hide" if you posting it on comments, for search could be same, but if you have blue it could be better.

Probably the best solution is to just have one link in your bio, so you can post without any link to grow reach, and users eventually will find your profile and use your link.

Problem is that very often, even if you can share your URL, once clicked the user won't land directly to your link but on a twitter disclaimer page warning the user to be careful, asking confirmation to proceed on the original destination.

This could stop many of them... I'm using telegram links to avoid that: telegram won't be blocked this way (for now)

Yes, X does allow posting links. Make sure they follow the platform rules.

Bit late to the party on this but can 100% say this is true. I only have Premium (Blue Checkmark) accounts used to promote adult content. Posted two very similar pictures minutes apart, both with text in the title and one with a link. The one WITHOUT the link got like 20K views compared to the one with text and the link in the title which only got 10K views.

I guess you could post the pic/video without the link, wait 5/10/20 hours until it gets a decent number of shares, then add the link in the comments.

Yes, X does allow posting links, but new accounts might face temporary limits to prevent spam. Make sure your account is verified with a phone number and has some activity. Once warmed up, you should be able to post links normally.

Yeah, X (formerly Twitter) allows links, but sometimes new or low-trust accounts don’t see that option right away. Build some activity first — post, engage, and wait a bit. Then the link option should show up.
