My site has a fairly good amount of traffic, and sometimes I just post a quick update or information or tips for each day, I try to make them as long as possible but sometimes its just not possible

I have always done this on this site, but I am just now trying to work on my search engine ranking.

will a low word count hurt you?

I do not think so. there are some excellent sites have only 100 words per post.

To the best of my [limited] knowledge, you don't want anything below about 250 words. Low word counts are common to scraped and spun content, content stolen from YouTube (i.e., video-only posts), etc.

Effectively you have to have enough content for the search engines to take what you're saying seriously, and apparently 250 words (or somewhere around there) is the baseline.

IMO experience it's best to have a good ratio of code to text...so anything like 20% or above. There's websites to check this but I can't friggin' post links yet.

Point is...more text = more content and if it's unique, that's ideal.

This is BS

If you are posting original interesting content, don't worry about that..

Don't worry about these little details.. just build quality

All of my content is unique, but sometimes I just cant get to that high of a word count.

During the day I do some small updates, I guess I could try bundling them up a bit, This site gets around 20 pages of content added per day which is all unique but generally is only around 100 words or so

what kind of site shows the ratio?

search G for woorank

it's a stupid site but it has some algo for text to code ratio...

Either way what vinniffa said is true...

I was posting comments earlier on a blog that had many pages of page rank 3, 4 and 5. A lot of the posts were one sentence and 1 photo. So no, I don't think it really matters.
