I'm thinking about getting a vps from xserver to run scrapebox. I'm looking at their $35/month plan. my first reason for doing this is obviously to free resources on my personal computer...but just wondering, does running scrapebox on a vps have any other benefits? is it faster?

Both.

Depending on your connection. For me the VPS from xsserver is much faster than my home network connection. That means I can use Scrapebox better. Also it's saves a lot of resources since I usually run 4 sb instances/VPS.

ive just got a VPS due to moving house and i was no longer able to get an unlimited download package due to my location.

i found when getting my VPS that SB was amazingly fast, i was completing an 100K AA list in a few hours compared to 24 hours previously.

however i am based in the UK and we are going getting 5Mps connections in my area, where as i can get 50Mps connection from my VPS.

i also found that with the VPS as i work i can run it on a big scrape and using my Iphone i can check it work using the remote connection and it allows me to perform tasks and even set SB and other programs running.

ive found its well worth the money.

Really just depends on your cpu specs and how fast your connection is. If your vps is shitty it could make scrapebox slower.

im not sure what my internet speed is, but have to guess it's decent - time warner broadband in the US.

my im currently running scrapebox on a 3gb virtual machine using parallels on an 8gb macbook pro.

So true... Still, if buying anything better than those low cost vps, you should be fine...

thanks for the link. i assume that we're only concerned with download speed?

says im getting 17mbps download and 1mbps upload

i have been using SB on a XS server VPS and it's way too faster. Many other SB users has also mentions the same here at BHW. You may check some of the "Macbaren's" post to know few experiences about VPS user for scrapebox.

It will free up your pc considerably.

I noticed when I was using scrapebox on my own pc

I couldn't really do much at all because the internet was being used up.

When I got my new VPS at Extreme SEO Tools, I had no problem and I was running scrapebox at 500 threads or more I think whatever the max is.

I build my GDI downline just with scrapebox to 120 people. Very good software.

It is no longer running on your own computr and essentially provides you with a second computer to utilize. I recommend a VPS to anyone that is serious about their SEO

Anyone who wants to get a VPS at extreme seo tools, I found a promo code from warrior forum check it out

Not much but helps get started anways.

im on that 35$ package from xsserver and most of the time its not much quicker than my home connection. sometimes down to 4MBS but it does free up the home connection and i leave SB and SEnuke running 24/7 on it. Deffinatly recommend a VPS just not sure abe XSserver as im looking for an alternative.

the question though is how much ram should we get for lets say 2 instances of scrapebox with a 50k list + another scraping continuously? i cant currently afford expensive vps so i have to maximize my my savings. :S

I recommend getting at least 8gb.

8GB is a waste for just 2 instances. As long as you trim the list of URLs < 150 characters you can run SB blasting remarkably stable with just 1GB of RAM, and another instance continuously scraping as long as you don't use a crazy amount of threads when scraping. I blast 1 million lists with 1 gb of RAM and it's very stable these days compared to previous releases. If you're pressed for cash, then RAM is the most expensive thing you will pay for on a VPS. So you always need to max things out. Keep an eye on your resource monitor.
