Thanks for the reply. What I'm trying to get at is if for instance I am trying to rank a French moneysite for instance with a .fr would it not seem a bit weird if all the PBNs are pointing to it are .com (ie it would look more natural if French PBNs were pointing to French moneysite).

Yeah, geo-targeted backlinks are better. If your website is Canadian, then you're better off with .ca backlinks for that specific site.

Thanks, for various reasons it is very difficult to get decent PBNs from my country and even when you do there are problems registering domains here. I guess it's still ok to link a powerful .com domain to a moneysite nonetheless though?

This is something that a lot of people struggle to understand. High quality backlinks from the same TLD as your target have amazing effects rankings wise. Instead of spending lots of $$ & potentially burning your domain with low-mid/strength irrelevant PBN links, aim for a handful of authoritative relevant links.

What you can do are guest posts. Find sites in your country that are strong (SEO-wise) and contact them for guest posts. You can do specific google searches (ie. "write for us" , "guest post by" "write for us" & several other terms like that). Easy way to get strong links nonetheless.
When it comes to .com, if your site is English based then it wouldn't be a problem. However if your website is for example French (french-filled content), aim for French content even if you have to make your PBNs ".com" domain extension.
Also think of it as natural-link building, you wouldn't naturally see an English article with a Thai-based anchor would you?
However, Canadian for with .com baclinks in English should be just fine.

If your domain has geo-targeted audience in some city in France for example, you should shoot for backlinks from local domains. It can be a jackpot for your website because google loves those backlinks and they bring more link juice!

A .com has always been seen as the top domain tld.
For pbn it a .com or as advised the country tld your in ....
It just to keep the pbn safe and not seem like spam ...
For a website it ok to use anythink , takes seo skill to hit top ....
But for quilty a.com best
There are other . Tld to suit websites these days but .com still working grate but the others like . Gemes evt are working grate ....

A lot of people claim that TLDs make a big difference however, I have seen no proof of this at all.
I think that content language is far more important than TLD and that I have actually SEEN case studies on.
If someone who knows what they are talking about (Not just going off what xyz told them) can shed some light on this, I'd be happy (Actual casestudy/ proof)

Yes, there are spammy domains, but when it comes to small differences like this, I really don't think it matters.
Like I said, I am basing this off the fact I have seen no proof to contradict that. I welcome anyone to disprove me
