I here people talking about profile backlinks.. is this what your talking about?

Also if so, what if I run two websites. Should I make 2 accounts on the forum and link them both?

Also I have another question.

If I'm ranking for specific keywords for exmaple

"YouTube" should I cover my link like this? YouTube

I'm trying to get the basics to link building down.
I signed up to over 50 forums for backlinks, I just want to know if it actually helps.

yeah, they surely help to rank your sites better but you have to remain active and keep posting on those forums. And not just stick on forums backlinks, you will also have to create backlinks from other sources.

What if I created 1,000 posts on each forum, put the website link it the forum profile+signature. Do I really need to stick around and keep posting?

This is the best way to do it because the profile links are not that useful anymore. However the signature links can be very powerful. I would suggest that you login to each forum once a month and make a post to make sure your account doesn't get deleted, which would ruin all the work you put into creating these links in the first place.

I wouldn't bother with profile links anymore... they hold pretty much 0 weight. I would dedicate more time to guest blogging, or even blog commenting.

Stop talking about forum profile links and go after quality links... If you want to protect brand identity you can go building profiles around various web 2.0 sites...

I second that profile links have way less weight than they did before.

But signature links, especially when you're an active member with lots of posts on a forum are still quite powerful.

I still blast my 1st tier links with thousands of profile links and it still seems to be working quite well

Just because a backlinking method doesn't work as well as it used to doesn't mean it should be disregarded. I have profile backlinks that have backlinks to them that rank in Google (not page 1 of course). They can still be powerful if used correctly, but people seem to think that just because Google devalued them, they're useless now.

I second the guy above. Don't go overboard with it but don't skip it altogether.

Ok thank you. Well I collected about 300 forum profile backlinks all by hand.

I'll wor kon some blog posting and forum posting.

Just depends if there is any other text on the profile page that is related to the site being linked to. For instance, do you have a description of the site being linked to along with the backlink? If so, that would help the search engines more properly identify what the site being linked to is about and would make your link look more credible and less spammy.
