Does Theme Sponsorship Still Works after Penuin?

I would like to know if it is still safe to sponsor wordpress themes after Penguin? Does anyone have success with it? I heard it is safe if you use your domain name as link instead of using keywords for themes. Let me know if anyone has any feedback.
