Does it matter how many subscribers your channel has when it comes to ranking?

Would you say that a channel with 20k subs can outrank a channel with 1k subs just because of it's "weight"? (assuming that both optimize their videos properly).

Sure why not and it depends on many factors too

I believe that the subscriber count does matter in this case. The only way a 19k sub difference wouldn’t matter would be if both channels have above 100k subs, or something like that. However, the ranking also depends on the other content: how many videos do the two channels have up and which keywords are they all ranking for… There are many variables there.

of course, it matters YT has dozens of different ranking algorithms and subscribers count one of them, I believe

Channel with 20k subs will surely have a little upperhand over the channel with 1k subs since the retention would be higher if those 20k subs are real.

No, the video that put me on the map was a review of a popular tech item. I had less than 1k subs when I made that video, and that video now has 440k+ views and I have 50k subs. (not from just that video ofc)

IF people click on it, youtube will show it.
