Hi,
I'm trying to build a PBN, and while searching for domains I've found that the metrics (trust flow and citation flow) for a domain are different depending on whether you choose root domain, subdomain, or URL. When people give guideline like look for domains with TF 15+, does that mean for any of those 3 categories, or is that for a specific one?

Thanks

Most of the people tend to give TF for root domain only. I think the sellers here too mentioning the same.

Actually you should go by subdomain (http://www.website.com)

9 times out of 10 the domain's true TF is with the www

When checking Majestic metrics like Trust Flow, whenever I go to the subdomain the metrics are higher than the root domain. Is the root domain non www and subdomain is www? How do I maximize the link juice in this case?

Thanks

your root domain can be www. or non www. you should specifiy.

subdomain is different, example
subdomain1.mydomain.com
subdomain2.mydomain.com

technically, www is a subdomain of http://root. It's a special case because most registrars, cpanel and plesk will have automatic redirects from root to www or whatever you specify when you set it up. Majestic treats it like a subdomain so people will generally quote the best TF/CF available on the site rather than the one that is most useful to someone looking to buy the site.

In terms of linkjuice, are you linking in or out? It's a common topic - search around for threads like this as I'm fairly sure there've been some decent discussions on it lately.

Although, now that I'm checking, I can see that most of the very recent ones have been started by you. I'll merge them now, but one thread per topic please otherwise I'll just delete them in future.

I'm interested in your rational for that, don't you feel that the root takes into account all links to a website rather than simply the ones pointing at the 'www.' subdomain?

OK, sorry about that, it's just that no one has clarified. So for Majestic metrics, subdomain is the same as www version of the domain. In other words I do not have to redirect anything (for link juice) because my site already prefers the www version. Is this correct?

9 times out of 10 people build links to the 'www.root.com' version, so when creating a PBN site make sure that it's set to that as default. If you don't, and you set your domain up as 'root.com', when following inbound links the Google bot essentially detects a 301 to the root domain meaning you lose link juice before you even get started.

In terms of majestic measurements, personally I'd put more stock in the root domain 'root.com' being the more valid measurement, why? Because it includes every single link to the domain in it's calculation rather than a smaller subsection of links that the 'www.root.com' version offers. That's not to say metrics and the be all and end all but they're useful for sorting out the chaff.

no - subdomain is the prefix before the root domain. so: http://www.domain.com is a subdomain, http://blog.domain.com and http://news.domain.com are subdomains but http://domain.com is not.

Majestic will provide different metrics for news.domain differently from www.domain, blog.domain or http://domain

You need to check how your site's set up. Most sites set up through cpanel/plesk or one of the big hosts will have the root domain redirect to the www. Easiest way to check is type your domain in like this: http://domain.tld - when it loads, see if the address bar now says "www.domain.tld" if it does, then it's redirecting.

In terms of the way it's done and how it affects link juice, I wouldn't really like to say - too many variables, too much to explain. Lots of big sites are coming away from subdomains and using www with subdirectories to segment but other people will tell you it's the worst idea ever and www is deprecated.

I'm a bit like a stuck record with this, but there's no substitute for research. Google for things like root versus subdomain, basic introductions to domain dns etc. it's one of those things you need to learn a bit about otherwise the answers you'll get won't make any sense.

A subdomain is viewed as its own unique domain in the eyes of google. If your building a PBN and find a domain that has a subdomain with the metrics your looking for be sure to build the links from the subdomain.

Take a look at the domain's top backlinks and see which version of the website they're linking to. This will be the version that tends to have the stronger metrics.

If most/all are linking to domain.com, then make domain.com your primary domain address.

If most/all are linking to www.domain.com, then make www.domain your primary domain address.

You'll notice that the vast majority of websites' backlinks will be heavily favored to one version or the other.

Setup your website accordingly.
