Whenever I post a new article to my website, I do social bookmarking of that link in various known sites like Tumblr, Digg, delicious, Diigo, slashdot, BibSonomy etc. but when I checked in google webmaster it doesn't show in "LINK TO YOUR SITE" even after 1 month. Why??

Social bookmarking can still work, but unfortunately it's just not as strong and impactful as it used to be. In more and more cases, you'll have to backlink those backlinks in order to get any real benefit from them

So social bookmarks don't account for link counts other than social shares ?

I'm not saying that social bookmarks won't count as backlinks, but they're just not as powerful as they used to be. If you want to try to track and see if they're being recognized as backlinks for you, then I'd recommended setting up Google Search Console tracking. There you will see all (or most) of the backlinks that Google is counting as backlinks for your site.

I would recommend you to focus on 5 to 10 social bookmarks/web 2.0 that are effective. There are plugins to auto post your article to tumblr, twitter, blogspot,...

From my personal experience I can say that social bookmarks work great if you are looking for a diversified link profil, but not really for ranking.

Build diversified links to your article links - web 2.0, social media, profile, forums, edu links social bookmarking and so on.

Good luck.
