Does SEO cost money?

Why do you say that? It's going in the exact direct OP wanted. I don't understand why you guys keep making silly posts.

YOUR post is off-topic. MY posts are all about how SEO can be done for FREE.

If you outsource, it will cost you but if you do it, it can be done for free. So it depends on how valuable your time is. If you waste 2-3 hours everyday doing nothing then SEO can be done for free. Now the second aspect is what you want to rank. Depending on keyword, you may need Guest posts, PBN to rank and you have to spend money for that. Many niche and keywords just do not rank building links on publicly available websites

I'm not mocking you with this post. This discussion (and the previous one) have already been derailed and no consensus has been reached. It's about time moderators lock this thread.

It can cost money, or time. both are equal to money. So there is no way out. you will have to invest

CONCLUSION -

FREE ROUTE - Long term, safer but grindy.
PAID ROUTE - Long/short term, comparatively less safe, but less grindy (as money helps speed things up).

I think that a lot of people are still not understanding the question.

What @SocialManager said earlier is valid.
Made me analyze what I already know, and see it in a different light.

SEO at its core is on site optimization.

Of course it is only one factor in the scheme of things, but provides a true insight on what S.E.O is.

Now when we begin to include what is valued as "Cost" such as time. Many people will have a different opinion/value to that.

But without those stipulations,

Answer remains as a simple NO.

After reading some of the shit spouted In this thread, I think I will poke me eyes out.

There i 2 options to make a good SEO:
1 - You are a goo SEO person, meaning you can do it yourself, so you'll have to SPEND TIME on it.
2 - You pay someone else to do the job for you, probably because you lack the time to d it yourself.

There is no other choice man, whether SPEND your own TIME (supposedly you're already good in SEO) or you SPEND MONEY. There is nothing else to go around that.

Wow! Everybody so damn vicious here today. This is probably a huge mistake with the mood everyone seems to be in today but here goes.

Hold my Beer and Watch this...LOL

I'm learning how to do this SEO thing, this is the second website that I made all by my lonesome.

Site #1

The first one literally sucks ass and I'm going to have to redo it. zero traffic, zero sales, yadda, yadda, yadda. I built that site following directions from a mentor that walked me through how to build the site step-by-step. I paid dearly both literally and figuratively for that experience. That mentor had me set up a site purely for landing pages and email capture. I figured out pretty quick I hate that style of email marketing. Not only that, I suck at landing pages. Nuff said there.

Then I pad to have a couple of affiliate sites built for me. Nice looking sites and fast, get some traffic, no conversions, no sales. Things are going to have to be overhauled in some sort of fashion and soon. Good money spent there too with so far $0 return.

Then I decided to get to the brass tacks of the matter and figure out how this website/affiliate site/SEO monster works and how to do it myself so that I can actually start to win, have decent sites and make some money because up to that point it was all a big **FLUSH DOWN THE TOILET**.

Site #2

Hired a coach that makes affiliate sites for a living for about the last 15 years. He started like most of the longtimer here when sites had to be written in HTML. Ranked sites for clients, built his own, etc, etc, still builds sites tot his day. Spent a little $$ to learn from him but I have to say, far less than I had spent so far on training/sites.

I started building it from scratch, brand spanking new domain registered, I seriously mean scratch. I wrote articles, and wrote articles, and wrote articles all from scratch, no copying anybody else's stuff, no spinning anything, hammering it all out at my desk on my laptop every day for a month. I followed the video he had made for me every day, stopped them, rewound, watch again. Keep doing, doing, doing.

Then he taught me how to do the interlinking, then the outbound links, etc, etc, etc. I still watch the videos as I'm going through and adding content.

I started getting indexed in a couple of days after posting. I actually started getting feedback from Google search console about 2 weeks in. Bing reported faster and ranked me higher. Things jump around a good bit but are on the upswing. I got a couple of sales into my affiliate account about 2 weeks in. I get sales of something or other every few days. Point is, I'm finally seeing some movement, some traction. Is it big money yet? Hell no, but I'm working on it. Things I have read over and over again in these forums is finally starting to make sense on how to do things, how SEO works. I'm starting to understand a lot more than I ever thought I would. I'm ranking on the first page of Google and Bing and it blows my mind because I think to myself when I look where I'm at that there is no way I'd outrank so and so website for anything, but there it is.

So, I don't know shit about SEO compared to any of these longtimers here that is gods honest truth.

I have figured out though, that it is so freaking easy to spend money and get what amounts to zero real help with SEO [and it could be anything in this world really if you think about it] when you don't already know the process yourself and what expectation and requirement to have of others.

I'm getting my hands dirty and yes, it's taking time. I'm not the fastest learner, I didn't grow up with computers or video games lol. The curve is probably a lot shorter and less steep for computer literate people.

So there ya have it. Yes, you can spend a fortune, trying to dig a gold mine that never pans out. You can even be thrifty and make bank. It can go either way or anywhere in between - just like any other business.

Good lord, this sounds like a journey thread.

I have heard that you can do SEO without money, but to have money is better. What do you think?

There are free tools and free trainings out there (BHW for example, has a wealth of knowledge), however there are limits to what the free tools can do and their accuracy. Tools like Ahrefs are considerably better than the free ones out there, but they cost money. So while there are aspects you can do for free (content optimization, site structure, site speed...) there are many aspects that require the spending of money, either on tools or people who can get the job done for you.

I'm surprised this thread still going on?
Is this even a question?

Even if you are doing everything on your own, it is gonna cost money given that you are not trying to rank for sdfnhjajdfijaidufhiadfi (aka: garbage)
  • Do you really think you can rank with free web-2.0s these days?
  • If you are outreaching someone for a FREE guest post, there is very-good chance they've been already approached for paid guest posts.
  • Building pbns? It is going to cost you money (domains, hostings)
  • Checking what's your competitors doing? Tools (ahrefs, semrush) will cost you money
  • Tracking ranking? It will cost you money

Let em talk... what do you think social,,, almost went with a Dance, Dance, Revolution meme, but it just isn't the same without the sound...
Why did you make this thread on the first place? You clearly seem to know SEO and don't care what pretty much the entire thread thinks

Why did you make this thread on the first place?

Been discussed earlier... On topic, diverted a thread hijacking appropriately... gave an honest home to a valid topic... why not

You clearly seem to know SEO

Thank You.

and don't care what pretty much the entire thread thinks

Sharing is caring...

I value all of the opinions here... backing up my own with proof of concept... screenshots and links for verification... not to overshadow the very VALID responses about money making things easier and more effective in competitive niches... but as stimulation to those who are starting with even with none or the most meager of resources (or other's resources) that "optimizing your campaigns in order to take advantage of search engine technology designed for organic results placement to acquire subsequent search traffic" can be done...

Other's have done the same to show how just a little cash can multiply the results with reduced workload....

Good for them.

I like to focus on the making money part and not the needing it part as much as possible. Life for too many and too long often focuses on the opposite.

It's not always bad to be the one that stands alone... that's why I moved to an Island.

Cheers.

Time is not equal to money. What you are talking about is called opportunity cost. Opportunity cost is variable between people, while money is constant between different people. $5 is $5 to me, to Bill Gates, to Elon Musk, and to a homeless person. It has a value of $5. However, Bill Gates and Elon Musk would not even stop to pick up $5 on the street, where as someone in Bangladesh might work 5 hours for $5. If you are hiring someone for SEO services, they charge the same amount regardless of what country you are from. The amount someone might charge you to do something to optimize your website might be $100, and that might be equal to 50 hours of work for you, where as the actual work only takes someone 1 hour to do.

My dude, get ready for everyone to call photoshop. I just solved SEO. #1 and #2 results. Niel Patel down in #5 position despite spending thousands of dollars a month on SEO services.

I don't think they will cry foul... the tail is long ... it is a zero search (at least G says) key phrase (but connected to our 50-60 phrase)... however... one thing no one ever talks about... creating a trend to MAKE searches. Hint... spread

to live and busy spaces in a helpful manner... don't say I never gave you anything... decades old secret. Was really helpful back in the day of simple MFA flipping (boosting search counts).

The more you talk the more you making yourself look like a fool. Without me pulling out tools to check it's so obvious that the keyword above is super longtail keyword with no exact value whatsoever.

Now keyprhase like "seo cost" has more keyword value and where is blackhatworld with authority? no where to be found in top 100.

Keep talking let me get myself some milk and popcorn.
