Does Registrant Contact Info Be Real?

Hi,

I'm buying a domain over at namecheap as we speak and at the checkout you can enter your "registrant contact"- "administrative contact"- "technical contact" and "billing contact".

Can I add fake information here or will I get in trouble?

I understand I get the privacy whois for 1 year but I was thinking for the future... If someone did a whois lookup they'll find this "fake" person instead of me.

Any thoughts?

You get it for free the first year, then it's something like 2-3 bucks a year. Wouldn't bother with fake information in that case, especially if the domain is not going to be just a burner.

It all depends on what your concern is.

The whois privacy is cheap, you'll end up keeping it after the first year.

You can enter whatever you want, Namecheap will not verify it.

OP, take this guys advice with a grain of salt.

As I mentioned earlier, it'll all depend on the reason as to why you want to keep it private.

Yes, you can enter a fake but it can create troubles when you contact customer support to solve your any issue, they may check your information as well, as they are able to know which country you are contacting from.

u can use fake name, address, phone, but definitely use a real email that u have access to as that is where ur notices will be sent for renewal and verification if u have any issues u need resolved

Fake whois will keep you from spam, but when pepole checks your whois and find it does not like a real one, they will file complaint to ICANN. You will be forced to update the whois to the real one. I will suggest you use the whois privacy service and people won't find out your real information by searching the whois.
