Does Ranking Return After G. Penalty Is Lifted?

So in last week's G's Algo update, one of my website was penalised. I submitted a reconsideration request and it was approved.

So my question is do the ranking usually go back to where it was? As this is my first, I'm clueless about it.

No, it does not. When you submitted your disavow file to Google, they removed the juice that was flowing from those spammy links to your site which in turn affects your rankings (downward) because you’re not getting the power from these links anymore.

However, if you didn’t disavow any links and your penality was somehow removed then yes, you’d be back at your original position.

Generally it won't be the same place. Someone's backlinks could be better than yours right now. And you lost lots of backlinks because of you rejected spam backlinks.

Yes, if the penalty has been lifted then you should get your rankings back.

which kind of penalization ? thin content, duplication, bad links ??

It was "Pure Spam" penalty. But I was very confused as all my content were written by my writers from Canada and UK. All were original content and at least 800 words or more. Like Google, quality is my top priority and it must be insightful and useful to visitors. I would sometimes even write my own content and would ask my writers to evaluate my write-up and correct any grammatical errors before posting it up - that's how much dedication I put into this one site.

Several years ago, My brother received a 'pure spam' penalty on his authority site but that was for his backlinking techniques (the classic forum profiles, blog comments, web 2.0s, public blog networks, .etc). In my case, forever, it was pure whitehat (no PBN or whatsoever). So it was quite a shock when I received the "Pure Spam" penalty.

Anyway, it has been lifted today after I've submitted the reconsideration request last week. Will just wait for a week or so and see how the rankings will be. Oh well, back to my other projects.

If your a site like thumbtack then yes.

Well normally, your site would take a little bit while longer, after 'fixing' the penalty that was imposed by big G, as their algorithm would need time to process the new data, before being able to determine whether your site is eligible for ranking that specific keyword.
If your site got ranked due to some backlinks that was auto-generated by a tool and it was penalized for that, even when you disavow or remove those links, your site may not recover, as disavowing simply removed the backlink profile out of the consideration, and your site now has no authority/link power after the disavow.
But if your site was built based on authority backlink profile, and just perhaps there was a misunderstanding in some of the links linking to your site, and by removing those few simple links, you should get back the ranking accordingly.

Speaking from real experience, yes, it does come back. But how how strong and powerful is another story.

In my opinion, after your Google penalty is lifted, you will have your ranking back. However, there won't be any change in your rankings. I believe you will only get to increase your ranking by building new quality links.

Instead of waiting, better to build new website and do 301 from old domain

Update: No, no disavow was done. And yes, actually I did notice most of my rankings (like 90% of it) are back since yesterday.
