Hey guys,

Does putting a blank index.html in all your folders of your blog (including main folder) affect how the search engine spiders crawl your website and/or does it have any negative SEO effect?

I am finding a lot of hackers trying to force the password in my site (Wordpress), but I use Limit Login Attempts so their IP gets lock from trying further. However, this doesn't stop them from searching around in the folders to see what I have and find an exploit. I have read that putting a blank index.html is a good security measure to avoid having your folders visible but would this affect SEO in any way? Would not the spider find a blank index and think WTF and not crawl the folder and what not?

Many thanks!! :)

It's probably not the best idea. It's not something I have experience with personally but I don't think having a blank index file will help SEO. Have you installed plugins for security? I use secure WP and firewall 2 and have never had any trouble with hacks.
