Does Number Of Search Engine Results Matter?

Hi everyone. I'm a new poster, but not a new reader.

About a year ago I bought Ultimate Niche Finder and used it to research some low traffic keywords. I found one that's considered "Easy" by the software with about 16 backlinks to the number 1 result. So I jumped on the opportunity and purchased a domain that matched the search I was going for.

I forgot about working on the site due to real life reasons, and now I want back in on the action. I started working on the domain, setting it up as an Amazon Affiliate, loading it with my own quality content. It's only been about 3 weeks, but no ranking yet. (untouched domain until 3 weeks ago)

Back to my question. I just now noticed the search results are about 800,000,000. Does that mean I made my first noob mistake on keyword research?

It doesn't seem like the sites are targeting my keyword phrase specifically.

It will take a longer time than 3 weeks, for the site to rank for a specific keyword, even if the keyword is the domain name, if you are only posting content on the site and not doing some backlinking (I do not know if you do though, but if you do you might want to check if you are over doing it or doing on a rate that it has minimal effect).

Three weeks man, geez. If we could all rank websites in 3 weeks by only posting content then 50% of the internet would be made up of Amazon affiliate sites. Give it time and slowly build some backlinks.

To answer questions, you'd find that keyword volume doesn't actually mean a lot. You really want to find out what keywords are "buying" keywords and then stretch it out for the longtails to build page authority. You're looking at around 3 months of hard work before even thinking about making some money you'll be wanting to boast about.

I don't think it's a good indicator of competition at all. Keywords that have the highest # of results are also the topics people talk/write about the most.

Keywords with a big number of results in the millions are likely to have a lot of competition since the number of results indicates interest and popularity, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they are high competition keywords.

If the top 10 results aren't optimized properly (on and off page) for the keyword in question, then it has low competition.

Number of results is not an indicator of SEO competition level, it just reflects the amount of results that could possibly be related to your search query.

There are some keywords that return 800,000,000 results that can be ranked very easily, while others with only 500,000 that may be very difficult to rank.

Only a thorough backlink analysis of your competitors on page 1 can give you an idea of how difficult it will be to rank for a given keyword.
