Does Link Velocity Still Matter?

I've been thinking about link velocity lately.​

• existing authority
• referring domain growth
• anchor distribution
• link relevance
• whether the links are actually indexed
• how often the site is publishing

A lot of SEO discussions still treat link velocity almost like a fixed rule: slow links = safe, fast links = dangerous.

I'm not convinced it's that simple anymore.

A brand new website getting 5,000 backlinks overnight obviously looks strange, but a site that's already receiving mentions, publishing regularly, and building links naturally can probably handle a very different velocity.

I think context matters more than the raw number.

Things like:

• referring domain growth
• anchor distribution
• link relevance
• whether the links are actually indexed
• how often the site is publishing

all seem more important than simply saying "X links per day."

Curious what others are seeing.

Do you still deliberately control link velocity, or have you stopped caring about it and focus more on relevance and overall profile quality?
