I'm using 'keyword difficulty' parameter to filter low competition keywords and of course use other measuring factors to evaluate a keyword's competition.

Does the 'keyword difficulty' in tools like SEMrush and ubersuggest hold any gravity? or it it completely arbitrary

Somewhat accurate, but always perform a manual check and compare different tool’s results.

They do hold some value. With a weaker site you're more likely to rank for a keyword Semrush considers to be easy than anything above that.

While there are cases when the SERP is actually tougher than what these tools say, majority of the time they're close to accurate. For this reason, you should also consider the kind of sites and the kind of results presently being shown on the result page. This would help you decide whether to consider the keywords and what kind of content to include on your page/content.

Yes, you can consider those tool values for low-competition ones. Do check manually for more accuracy and insights.!

the interpretation of keyword difficulty varies from tool to tool. Generally speaking, however, keyword difficulty is a measure of how difficult it would be to rank for a given keyword in search engines.

Yes, they have some value and you can take the results into consideration.

Those SEO tool companies are not dumb ass. They all have some real SEO veteran with deep deep experience and knowledge for years.
Simply because some or few percentage of the KD is messed up doesn't mean their system is broken. It's just a complex algo and you can expect some inaccuracy.

For me, KD is important. But I don't care about KD because I try to cover every node possible no matter how difficult or easy it is.
I don't expect high KD to rank, I just need them there in my site.
KD for me is a priority of which keyword to cover first.

my 0.02, can be wrong.

They do, its usually calculated with a variety of different metrics such as links, the authority of the sites ranking for it and more. I would not take these keywords as fact all the time though. Once I've found a keyword I want to target, ill usually cross-check it with google kw planner or another tool.

I`m saying more critical than not. For example, in Ahrefs, it is a very powerful thing like KD. But as mentioned above, you need to recheck all things. So I use this metric with the Amount of RD and Volume and other things in content planning every time.

Keyword Difficulty means how much competitors is there for that particular keyword. KDs has 30 to 60% - moderate level
More than that difficulty to rank. SEmrush and ubersuggest result works well

It's a Metric that is used in Ahref, Semrush tool, and some other SEO tools that score the ranking difficulty of each keyword and we can also analyze how difficult to rank a particular keyword in a search engine.

Create your structure to discover keyword difficulties, rather than just using a tool, as tools display results based on their structure.

just lately i noticed that one some keywords same backlink campaigns brought better results on higher KD keywords, means the accuracy is probably closer to none.

They are arbitrary in the sense there isn´t a condense as to what is the best methodology to measure or calculate how hard will it be to rank at the top of Google for any given keyword.

Also, in a way, keyword difficulty scores make no sense (at least to me) because even if you can come up with content that is much better than the competitors and fulfill user´s search intent far more effectively this doesn´t guarantee you will outrank the top results because that would assume the SEO on your site/pages is better on average than the competitors.

So, I know for me keyword difficulty scores are just an indication as to what keywords I need to pay attention to further extent my evaluation and analysis of what keywords I need to go after.

Ahrefs is capable of showing some accuracy for high-difficulty keywords, IMO. There are times when it fails to display the exact value for low-difficulty keywords, but you can check manually to get a more accurate value.

Yes it gives an idea about keyword chance how much it will take to rank if you are going to target it. What is Keyword Difficulty? In the world of SEO, Keyword Difficulty is a handy metric which helps you understand how hard it would be to rank for a particular search query.
