I was reading the four hour work week (one of my favorite books of all time) I know the book was published back in 2007. I had a conversation with a marketer recently and he was telling me that selling information is not a good thing to sell in 2014 bc people can get the info for free and it will end up on a free download website such as mediafire. I personally disagree with him but i want to know your guys opinion, Can you still sell information in 2014?

I'm not sure how the question relates to the book?

To answer the question though, information is a best seller - always has been, always will be.

Basically what I got out of the four hour work week was the best way to have free time is by selling information. I just wanted to know after reading that book and having a conversation with a marketer do you think you can profit from selling information in 2014. Thank you for your feedback

It depends on what information it is, now a days, so much information is available that it's making it difficult for those that are wanting to get in the business of selling. Don't let yourself down though, if you have an idea that you think will work, be optimistic and go for it, don't ever let someone tell you that you can't do something. If you have great information to sell then people will buy it, it's just a matter of getting it in front of the right audience.

    Good luck!

I don't really think Tim Ferriss said the best way to have free time is by "selling information". He says that you need to create a "Muse" that has the properties to generate income on Autopilot. THAT will give you free time. Because you wont be working for money.

And Trepanated is right - Information (intel) is a best seller - always has been, always will be.

Where there are morons there is money, and morons just love to know how to make money, especially that money for nothing. Just read around IM forums, "how can I make £2000 today?".

If you have valuable information then yes it will sell.

Anything valuable or with a high demand will sell

OP, of course people can find information by themselves for free.
The reason people pay for it is to save time doing the research.
    Everybody wants an easy life.
Giving people the information they want, when they want it, is very lucrative.
Next time your friends starts talking nonsense just give him a slap.

Exactly. You can find an article of a niche here. But, you can always find it there also. Add a little of yours over there with what you learned from here and there and you have people that want yours over there. Phew. Epiphany? ;)

That's true. Time is money. Some people are willing to spend a lot if time doing research and getting their information for free. On the other hand, you can spend money, buy that information and save time. These people are also the ones who don't know any better. So yes, there will always be people willing to spend money on information.

Also, don't forget the concept of reassurance. For example, a dating guide on picking up women. No matter how many such guides men read, they wil always want to read more for reassurance that these concepts work. So they will be willing to spend money on that information just for the sake of reassurance.

Huh, reassurance. Even though its repetitive information, over and over, they keep buying that information? Hmm... Thanks! You just gave me a spectacular idea :D

Of course, selling information will ALWAYS be one of the top 3 commodities in the world.
However all "information" isn't (and hasn't ...) always = valuable enough that someone would purchase it.

In plain terms, if someone finds what you have to sell valuable enough to them and it is marketed and/or available in a way that is accessible, then they will buy it, no matter what year we're in.

Information will never stop being sold. The real question is WHAT information are you attempting to sell and to WHOM?
