Does irrelevant blog post with search topic help or harm?

For example let's say I'm a google ads services provider in my small country, I've been writing blog post relevant to my niche advertising and marketing, however most topic I wrote either have very little search volume or it's dominated by ultra high DA sites.

So I've started to think maybe if I write something that's having local search volume and easily rankable, it'll help my overall sites

For example writing blog or making page like:
How to buy stock in (my country)
How to register a business in (my country)
Minecraft server (my country) sponsor by us…

As you see some are very irrelevant to not even relevant to what I do, a search advertising provider, but since these kind of topic are having much more local search volume, does it going to help my website overall?

Search engines are these days using something the SEO community named as "topical relevancy".

It is calculated on page but also site-wide basis.

When website talks about pets for example and suddenly article about cyber security pops up, it will not perform well because topic doesn't match. Search engines don't see the website as authority on the topic and therefore it doesn't rank.

When I did what you described in the past, I wasn't able to rank such "foreign" pages. Only way was a lot of backlinks (many more than other pages needed) and creating supporting silo of articles.

By all means go ahead and do it but just 2-3 pages and observe the results.

Yes, I think it can harm website if overdone. You will create a cesspool of random topics where nothing will rank properly.

Thanks for the detailed answer, alright I'll probably find something somewhat closer to the topic

Posting irrelevant materials will throw off the context value of your content and weaken your overall domain authority

Of course, the offset to this is heavy backlinks from high authority sources

I don't see it like that,

Simply because this would hurt bloggers who like to blog about things they are interested in.

What if my expertise is in programming and childcare, two completely separate topics, but that doesn't mean I'm not an expert in both.

What google will do is create two seperate branches, and the articles will be the leaves to each branch.

So if I have 50 tech articles, my tech branch will have 50 leaves.

And if I have 10 childcare articles, my childcare branch will have 10 leaves.

This just means I have a better chance of ranking my next article if it's tech related, but it won't bring both branches down. The two are separate.

If google did weaken topical authority because I wrote about another topic, this would seriously impact sites worldwide, you need to remember that Google's sole job is to give you reliable detailed information.

Deeming one article no longer reliable or detailed because you wrote another article on a different topic would be madness. That would be google edging towards "one site, one topic" kind behaviour, which would never happen because guest posting would annihilate sites.

@SimplrHosting if you start writing on new topics, it will just be harder to rank those new topics rather than the ones you have information on already. But it won't affect your current articles in any way. That's not how topical relevance will ever work. Don't be scared to try different ways of writing content to rank or different keyword research methods.

My advice to you would be to try and find easy keywords in your current topic, as you will already have topical relevance, and if you genuinely can't then try and switch. But I would urge you to try your best and study keyword research techniques to find easy keywords, they are out there. Reverse engineering is a good one for new sites. I personally use it.

How so, that would make guest posting harmful to sites, so basically don't buy guest posts anymore because the sites will already be ruined?
