Hi there!

I was wondering if you guys think that the residence of your IP matters for YT Shorts and long-form as much as it does on other platforms such as IG or TikTok.
For example, I have some experience with TikTok and I know that getting an IP that's residential with your target audience is really important, would you say it's the same with YT or does it matter less?

When it comes to Youtube, IP residence doesn’t seem to matter as much as it does on platforms like TikTok or Instagram, at least not in the same way. TikTok and IG have algorithms that are more regional, they’ll often prioritize content based on your IP location, especially if you're targeting specific geos. But with Youtube, the algorithm’s more about engagement and watch time, and less about where your IP is coming from. Sure, having an IP that matches your target audience could help, but Youtube’s algorithm will push your content to audiences based on their interests and interactions, not just location.
That said, if you’re in a different region and targeting a specific audience, using a VPN like https://nordvpn.com/ or https://www.expressvpn.com/ could still help tailor your content’s reach, but it’s not a huge factor like it is with TikTok. Keep focusing on making great content and engagement and Youtube will push it to the right people.

IP matters way less on YouTube than TikTok or Instagram. YouTube cares about how viewers engage with the video, they will look at the watch time, clicks, engagement—not where you upload from. If your content is aimed at US viewers (English language, trending topics specifically relevant in usa, etc.), YouTube will naturally push it to that audience. Residential IP doesnt make that big of a difference.

Focus on content optimized for that region of viewers (SEO, thumbnails, topics specifically for that geography of people). Focus more on clickbait thumbnails, video editing style etc, if people watch and like your stuff, and when your ctr and retention goes up you enter the suggestions/browse features algorithm.

You can also use promotional methods like views services and etc to boost your channel.

Cheers.

It matters for YouTube also. The place from where you upload video, will attract the most audience from that place. Like if you want to target another country, you will have to fake the location of that country. It is hard but not impossible.

I barely get views from my country and get views from varied countries, not using any proxies since I don't want to risk random shadowban due the IP being used previously for spam or whatever.

how can I have fake location? i want to create USA based youtube channel.
Should I use a US VPS, and should the phone number I use to create my YouTube account and email be American?

It doesn't really matter so much unless you're running a location specific account. If that's the case, for consistency's sake, go with the residential IP especially if yeah- it was always your target audience on that IP's location.
