I’ve been running a few niche blogs over the past months, and I keep seeing mixed opinions about internal linking strategies. Some SEOs swear it still gives a noticeable boost, while others say Google’s newer algorithms make it less effective than before.


Here’s what I’ve noticed in my tests so far:


  • On one site (30 posts), I added 2–3 internal links per article, using exact-match anchors.
  • On another similar site, I only linked naturally (1 per 1,000 words).

After about 3 weeks, the site with tighter internal linking seems to rank 1–2 positions higher for a few secondary keywords.
