They convert well. I just got into IM not long ago and don't know as much about it as other people on this board, but have seen very good conversions on hookup. Had 2 paid signups on my last 15 free signups.
And their support is great as well. Every time I Email them, I get an answer the same day. As for people who say they don't pay, they need to understand something. They cannot pay you 600$ for 200 free signups and 0 conversions. This is a business just like any other business. Maybe you need to change your strategy. Tricking people into a free signup usually doesn't end up in a paid signup. Think of hookup as your employer. Try to make them money. Just like in the offline business world, when you take care of your employer, your employer will take care of you. Remember to never bite the hand that feeds you.
I had to quote that again only because that is what it's all about.
