Does HideMyAss.com Advertise here? Help.

I bought a 1 year plan at hidemyass.com. Seemed like a good deal. I use it for creating accounts. Well apparently that's against their rules and they suspended my account.

Even though it's been less than 30 days they are refusing to refund me because I used more than 10GB of bandwidth.

Anyways, I asked them why they advertised on a black hat forum when they don't allow user account creation. They denied advertising here and state that they will refund me if I can prove they do.

My bad was paying for 12 months up front.

So do they advertise here, I'm sure I have seen the banner ad.

There has been a HMA banner here recently, but I guess it could have been placed by an affiliate.

That sucks! and yes, I recall seeing their banner around.
I would try to resolve the issue by being nice and apologizing, tell them you didnt know and you wont do it again.

If they say no, dispute or chargeback.

Is too late now but next time before paying for a whole year for any service, try it for a month first to see if it's gonna work out for you. I hope you get your money back.

I don't know how to prove it was them that was advertising but their banner was definitely on the site. It was that annoying white cartoon donkey banner.

you are right , I have seen their banner several times , I'd take a screenshot If I saw again and send it to you , but I do not think that is going to solve your problem.

First, Yes I saw that same HMA Banner on here. Probably was a affiliate.
Anyway my advice as some of you may know is to stay far away from
HMA. Their great if you want to create Church Membership accounts lol.

Threaten them with a chargeback/dispute if they don't respond to the polite method suggested earlier. They will work with you or get a nasty ding on their account. You may want to also point them to this thread. I know that I will not be using them in the future as a result of this thread. They were at the top of my list too.

I'm not sure I believe there usage they claim I used. They say I uploaded 4GB but somehow my download was 17gb. The reason I find this really hard to believe is the only thing that VPS is used for is account creation and scrapebox. I highly doubt I scraped 17gb worth of URL's. I did request the company I rent the VPS to let me know how much bandwidth I used. This could just be a tactic to deny refunds.

@OP: Scrapebox uses lots of bandwidth. Might be you have used 17gb for scrapping.

It's their fault for not configuring their software to prevent you from going over some limit in whatever "plan" you are on. I really don't like HMA that much. I did some research last week on VPS's and what their company policiies were on storing client data and if so for how long. My research had an eye on the possibility that the VPS would hand over data to law enforcement, etc.. and under what circumstances (i.e. do they require a subeona or do they give it whenever the girl scouts get bored.

In an admittedly old article, HMA was one of the few that refused to answer the author's basic question regarding their data collection policy, where a large number (more than 10) were very glad to be able to let the author know that they either did not collect data and so had nothing to hand over, or they purged their data every (maybe) 24 hours, or whatever.

Point being, noted that HMA presented "unknown risk" vs. many others that had little or no risk. Not that I do anything illegal, etc... but you never know. Someday I might. Or someday something I'm doing that's not illegal might suddenly become illegal. Or whatever, it doesn't matter. It's a basic privacy matter and it's nobodies business what I or anyone else does. Is how I feel about it.

A roundabout way of saying having HMA get arrogant with their company policy might in the long run keep you out of prison. There are plenty of other servers around.

Oh. Forgot. Another quality point I was interested in is the number of servers and their locations, as I am interested in US-only servers, with as many IP's as possible from as many major Citys as possible, preferably dynamic. StrongVPS was recommended. I haven't looked any further than that, but I will say my starting number for HMA is about 250 IP's from all over the world and a limited number of US IP address, and only a few of them are dynamic. So on that question, the relative merit of HMA depends on what others have and how much they want for it.
