Does having "store" in your authority site domain harm you earning potential?

I have a great, aged domain with really good DA/PA/TF/CF stats I would like to use to build an authority site, but it has the word "store" in the domain. For example, let's say my niche is "football", then my domain is similar to "topfootballstore.com".

My question is, do you think having "store" in the domain name would hurt an authority site that focuses on reviews and top-5 style articles and links out to amazon associates? Would it be better to create a new domain with no DA/PA/TF/CF stats instead?

If you're going for an SEO approach (ranking articles), then it's probably fine to have "store" in the domain name. The thing you'd probably run into more issues with is if you wanted to promote your link on Reddit or other social media platforms. People avoid upvoting things that look like they're marketing schemes. In the SERPs, though, it's probably fine.

Thanks. I agree that "store" in a domain would turn off some potential traffic from social shares and this is why I hesitate a bit. I'm thinking if I can create good, non-spammy URL slugs and have quality content then hopefully I can overcome the hesitation of potential traffic when they see "store".

Would you personally choose the "store" domain with great stats or go with a new, 0 stat domain if you were in my situation? To give some rough numbers, the "store" domain has 24DA/38PA, multiple .edu backlinks, non-spammy backline profile, etc. It's really high quality.

Really depends how important social media is to you. Kind of hard to tell just hearing metrics, though.

It's probably possible to register a second domain that just redirects to the first one, which you could use for social shares. For example, reddit.com also owns redd.it and all pages on redd.it redirect to the exact same page on reddit.com (or something like that). Ex:
  • redd.it/some-url-path-number-6 --> reddit.com/some-url-path-number-6
Maybe you can do a similar thing for your social shares with a similar name that doesn't have "store" in it.

Awesome, that's a great idea. Should be simple enough to set up. Thanks for your input, it's got me thinking about some good strategies here!
