Let's say I have a backlink on a high DA site, does it make sense to add more links on that site to increase my ranking? or we only need one backlink per domain?

ideally one backlink per domain is recommended but personally I have seen more value when I get more links from the same domain again and again. However I prefer to link to other inner pages when i am using same domain

You'll get some benefit from every link, but it's generally suggested that the first one has the most value. Just link to other pages though not the same one.

Depends on where (to) and why you're building the links. If you're getting multiple links from the same domain to different landing pages with varied anchor text, then fine. If you're building multiple links from the same domain to your homepage, then the benefits will become increasingly negligible.

Every backlink has authority. Your first link may give you more boost than other links on that domain. Try to use different anchor with the different landing page.

Only one way to really find out, as with everything in SEO.

- Buy 2 domains keywordx.com and keywordy.com
- Get the same hosting company
- same site setup in terms of CMS and theme and plugins
- make 6 articles 500 words each for 3 keywords so each site gets 3 pages
- put your main keyword on the homepage
- use 2 leywords as innerpages
- create links frrom a site to only the homepagee to the X site
- create links from a site (make sure it's the same site) to innerpages on the Y site
- track the ranking for both sites on the 3 keywords

See which one ranks best.
SEO is ALL about testing and seeing what works. It's NOT about reading what everyone is "guessing".

You can make this test as big as you want by adding more domains and
just send one link to the homepage of domnain keywordz.com and compare
the result with domainx.com so you know if more backlinks to the same page even matter.

Get creative ;)

so based on your experience, X site rank better than Y site? I will vote for X coz X has better DA, Y has better PA.

DA is just a small factor and easily faked so be careful with that.
I test everything and the SEO world is changing very very fast.
Google has fun things in store for all of us ;)

is tier link building still a thing? This is my last hope of improving my site's ranking. if this fail, i will give up.

Would you say no to NYTimes linking to you more than once? Of course not.
