The H1 tag on my site appears to be messed up. Is this used anymore by search engines? Should it match the page title ?

H1 tag is second most important thing in On Page Optimization after your page title.
Title + H1 tag + Slug = Pretty powerful on page optimization signs.
Your h1 tag doesn't have to be like your title. It's about what you are targetting and your keywords selection
If you are just starting just leave it as the title and don't over think it

Most def., insert main keywords into it. Actually, wrap your title in h1 tags.
as this, it is there for a reason

Here is the answer for your question,
At the same time search engine will give second most important for H1 tags to ranking. So try to use your keywords on it without fail. There is no problem to use title name to H1 tag but it would be some part in that.

Thanks. I've changed my page titles to work as h1 tags. Curious to see if that gives any kind of boost at all. For some reason h1 wasn't set from the get go with my sites theme.

For some reason I couldn't figure out how to make page titles have the h1 code in them but I figured out how to do it after taking the my web host provider.
