Does Google track your mac address somehow?

I can't quite figure out how you could obtain a mac address though web protocol, but I suppose it may be possible.
 
With javascript, .net, and perl just to name a few, it IS possible to get your local mac address (of your local network card).
 
Im pretty sure its through things you install such as google toolbars, desktop application, chrome, etc..
 
it's not possible via web browser but via toolbar, google earth or if you use google chrome sure they will

This isnt true, I have a working example of it providing you have java enabled on your browser (which 99% of people do)
 
I don't use Google Toolbar, I've only got Chrome installed but I don't use that either. How does MAC spoofing work?

you have a working example of what? are you saying you have a working example of google getting people's mac address via webv browser if jave is enabled?

I dunno about google doing this, but this is an example of java being used to capture a users MAC address.

Not if you sign into any google service and accept their t&c's! Ebay and paypal routinely catch previously banned users by matching their mac addresses!

Theirs lots of software available to spoof your mac or depending on your nic you could try changing it via regedit

But how can they get the Mac Address when its not even transmitted over the internet???

I mean it works on 2nd layer and IP works on 3rd layer...and also the IP is issued on Mac Address only. Means IP will going to carry every information over the internet in form of packets and thus the role of Mac Address gets limited to Router level only and is not transmitted beyond that!!

Then how come ebay will come to know about that???
 
Mostly its because people are installing apps like Google Chrome, Talk, and Earth.

Don't. Or at least not on a machine you use for blackhat

While it's true that the layer 2 physical address of a packet is stripped away and replaced at each hop along its path to the destination, third party software (java, flash possibly, whatever crap you have installed on your machine, ect..) can be used to directly capture your MAC address and send it to a server. Hope that makes sense.

Yea, this is what I do when I want to efficiently automate the process of spoofing my mac addy.

This is all a little off topic however, as we have gotten to talking about the implications of their TOS and what google does when users connect to their servers or use their software.

The article shade pointed out is about the big g using its Street View cars to scan private wlan networks. I don't know about you guys, but I find this to be a disgusting invasion of privacy from an organization that claims to put a priority on preserving the privacy rights of people..

Just another shining example of these douche bags blatant hypocrisy.
 
Has anyone tried using SMAC? Is it any good?
