Does Google recognize my backlinks?

I created 2 web 2.0s about 2 weeks ago. Both are indexed. But, neither ahrefs nor Webmaster Tools shows I have any backlinks. I've checked both properties, and the links work and go to my site as they should. It's strange, before I created them, my site was hovering around the 3rd-4th spot for the keyword. After my 2.0s were indexed, the site has been wiped off the map. Any ideas as to what's going on and how I can see if I'm actually getting any power from these 2.0s?

Actually backlinks sometimes doesn't work. Make sure when you are creating backlinks then you are using proper anchor tag with relevant keywords otherwise crawlers and spiders won't track your links and they will mark it spam. If you are building backlinks using commenting technique then don't put link with your comment because there is already your link in your name when you fill comment form.

The site I have is an EMD, and the anchor text is the same keyword (name of the site). I've only created two properties, so I can't imagine I'd be penalized for just two of them, considering I've made them both look very natural (images, embedded videos, 1-3 posts per blog). I suppose ahrefs and Webmaster Tools are just slow. If Google has both 2.0s indexed, I guess I'm getting the backlinks already. :)

Yes I accept that GOogle webmaster tool is very slow to track 2.0s. Try any other backlink checker tool to check whether your backlinks are working or not.

Do you know of any? All I've ever used is ahrefs and Webmaster Tools..

What the hell? Are you serious? Ever heard of "Generic keywords"? It's what any half-decent SEO knows how to do. I've built thousands of generic, off topic, random keywords to my sites and all it's done is helped. You're only meant to build a certain percent of your backlinks with exact keywords, relevant keywords/longtails, etc. Stop spreading bullshit around.

@OP: Ahrefs can take weeks to pick up backlinks, and only a fraction of what you have are actually picked up in the end. I've had hundreds of links made, and indexed, but Ahrefs only has 30-40% of them listed.
Don't feel discouraged by them not appearing.

As for why your site disappeared: How old is it?
 
I would try building backlinks to your backlinks. But right now I would say that it's a Google Dance and you should see higher rankings after a few days/weeks.
 
As for ahrefs it is a flaw in their software. I complained about lack of web2 backlinks many months ago and they told me they would fix it. However, that has never happened :(

Bro i know that off topic and random keywords also work well. But i meant to say that if you are building backlinks by commenting then you should use relevant keywords otherwise owner will remove it. I hope you understand what I'm trying to say.

Actually, it just popped into the 9th position. I was told Google sometimes has some sort of "Google Love" where it'll rank sites for a short period of time (hence the 3-4 rank for a few days), then put the site where it should really be. Now, perhaps the backlinks are starting to take effect. :) I'll just have to assume my links are helping I suppose, thanks for the help!

Yeah, I haven't learned how to do tier 2 yet, nor do I have any software to do it. I'll get to that after I have a strong 1st tier, thanks for the info. :)

I'd have to agree with verilix, using off topic or generic anchor texts will help.Do to the penguin update if we have to many anchors for the keyword we are trying to rank it our site could fall off the search engine. Any anchor text diversity is good.

What I think has happened is Google decided not to include your backlinks in the webmaster tools because it didn't like those backlinks. Also your site dropped because google has still detected them and might have dropped your site to the bottom to see how well it does ranking back up to the top. Focus on backlinking your backlinks with high quality content.
