Yes, it's a ranking factor. Moreover, many browsers show warning if you don't have SSL. I've only found adult sites ranking without an SSL. Most other ranking sites are https. However, it's only a minor ranking signal and Google doesn't kick your site out of SERPs over an SSL certificate.

Network security is very important to secure data for both website and users. The data transfer from http can be intercepted by the hackers so, https provide more security to communicate between client and server because https encrypt data so hackers can not read the data. Google give preference to the websites who use https. All webmasters should use HTTPS in order to rank higher in SERP.

Is not just that prefers... Most browsers will show warnings instead of your page as is not under SSL... Why pick cloudfkare and use it is free and you will have SSL

https, without doubts, sometimes you find well ranked sites with http, but It doesn´t mean http ranks better!
