Does google index site first and then rank a while after?

Found my site indexed by google after just a few hours but it's not showing on any of the SERPs yet.

Is this normal? Will it show up in the ranking within the next few days?

Go to g00gle webmaster tool, there you can see what pos you rank on keywords

Thanks but its a blog so I cant really incorporate the code google wants me to put into the html.

What blog hosting service are you using?. Choose the "Meta Tag" to verify and place the code in between the head tag.

To your original question natewax. Since your blog is new give some time to see some ranking. Obviously to see SERP you'll first have to work on your blog SEO process. Both On-page and Off-Page very effectively.

Here is one story from my experience. I was given a keyword to rank and the keyword itself a SEO phrase since i was working on a SEO company. It was a brand new page that was just created for me to rank for them and both On-page and Off-page was done by me. Once indexed it was on the 786 position i think and after doing some effective Off-page SEO in less than 3 weeks the page was ranking for the keyword at the 15th position.

So do give some time and work hard on both On page and Off Page. Hope this helps bro.

What did you meant by Off page bro?

Simply Off-Page are the SEO process that are conducted away from your site. Commonly refers to Link building.

That 's normal. You will need time and backlinks.

do you need to verify web sites? I never did this and these sites are ok. The one site i did verify is no-where to be seen :-( Drives me crazy. I never bothered with sitemaps either. do oyu have to?
