What do you think? Is there a way Google could recognize a negative seo attack or could disavow work to avoid being effected by one ?

    Thanks

    Absolutely.

I'm not the kind of guy to do nSEO, so have no first hand knowledge; however, the general caution on here goes that one should be aware that nSEO 'can often backfire', and instead of destroying a sites rankings, may in fact help them.

They have filters. No doubt on it.
Otherwise it would be way to easy to take a website down in serps.

I wouldn't call it filters as much as I would say that the algorithm identifies that the links are not of value for the site. Just like any other links, really.

For instance, the nSEO people seem to like throwing porn links at sites. At first, the site will start ranking for those terms but since people who use those terms are looking for porn and not "Mary Joe's Etsy Shop" they will bounce from her Etsy shop and find another link for what they are looking for. The algorithms calculate that no one really wants Mary Joe's Etsy shop in their porn searches, so the site drops out of those searches.

What happens is the increase in traffic, though, is then returned to normal traffic stats before the nSEO. The nSEO person and the site owner see this as a "penalty," but really, they were benefiting (albeit only for traffic but not for conversions) from the nSEO links and then they went back down to natural traffic levels. It's this perception that makes people think nSEO works.

I would say no.... for the simple reason that Google doesn't give a shit about NSEO, sur ethey will say that they do, but really they don't and why would you waste millions on algo changes to combat nseo, all you have to do is be a fat fat fuck in a hangout and state that you care and you have measures in place and keep those millions for your you and your stockholders.

That is what i would do and i am not near as nasty as big companies like Google, not even close.

I think big brands are more likely to be on a "whitelist"... and more likely to be safe from negative seo. Big brands for example such as bankofamerica.com, ford.com, bankrate.com I'm pretty sure google knows these are big brands and they most likely will not be affected at all.

Absolutely! I can't tell you how many website I've seen ranking #1 for very nice KWs even though they have 100k viagra links pointing to them. It almost always seems to backfire.

Yup. I was ranking well with one website which got dozens of NegSEO backlinks with porn anchors. First I was in panic, but it seemed like Google recognized it. My rankings didn't change at all and the website is still NOT penalized, even it is 2 years ago.

I think when Google updates it's algorithm then only Google disavow the links, otherwise if not so then why all blackhat techniques is now also in trend.

The only defence against neg seo for now seems to be the disavow tool.
