Does Google Hates .info domains?

I've been playing with a couple of .info domains for the past two months. I've built backlinks and all the usual SEO tools/tips.

But, the only visitor I ever get from Google is the damn GoogleBot.

So, I'm thinking - what am I doing wrong, and I find this article on the web: http://www.affiliatebestprograms.com/info-domains-and-search-engine-marketing-forget-about-it/

Does anybody else think this is true? I'm not spending any more time/money on .info sites for SEO purposes.

Oh well, live and learn. Another step in the journey...

Now my heart is sinking. I recently bought few .infos. But i don't really agree with that author in totality that ur .info domain don't show up "not even for a search of the domain name using quotes". Actually mine comes :P though my site is just one week old.
 
Yes, mine comes in too - but, only my .com's actually come in on keyword searches, unlike my .info's. I dunno, I might be jumping the gun, but I think the author of that article I linked to is right - Google knows that .99 domains will be spammy.
 
Google does not give preference to .coms over .infos. I use them all the time. .coms are better for brandability/type in traffic but not really necessary for ranking in SEs.
 
Wowhaxor is correct.Theres no harm in having .INFO Domains at all.I have plenty of .INFOs in different niches and they are raking well :D
 
Can anybody point out any search terms that yield .info domains on the first or second page?
 
The .info paranoia came about because GoDaddy was selling .info domains for .99 cents and spammers were buying them in bulk for nefarious purposes.

There WAS a significant hit to .info's that was well documented shortly after that sale was let loose. Some type of penalty custom coded into the algo in order to try and weed out the junk sites and keep the good .info sites.

If a site had a lot of content and stuff, it was left alone. If it was brand new and lite on content, it was given a penalty.

It's commonly believed that such penalties have been removed or altered making .info's on par with others, but there is a hint that if a .info gets dropped into the sandbox, it will take longer to get out even if you use all the traditional ways.
 
The reason some people erroneously think it makes a difference is that .com existed many years before .info became available and naturally there are more older sites that are .com.

It makes no difference, a quality .info site with good content will always outrank a spam .com site.
 
I have a good website ranked and I am using .info domains
There is no problem in using it
 
I have .info ranked in first page (#5) on google without problem. You need to have good content (as always) and trusted backlinks.

yeah you must be doing something wrong with your SEO.. .info's optimize well for me.
 
.info is just as good as .com if you use your keyword in the domain, do on page SEO and link building you'll get any website extension on 1st page of google.
I've got a 4 weeks old .info competing with 50,600,000 and I'm #4 on google :)
 
I have plenty of .info sites that have indexed well and are ranking for various keywords.

I think what goes on is people put crappy sites on .infos because they are cheap, so a bigger number of them do not rank.
 
I was just getting ready to scrap my .info but ran into this. I read somewhere it's not even worth the time trying to rank an info. I'm glad you all replied to this.
 
Google prefers .com, they give a better quality score to .com, but that doesn't mean that you are not going to be indexed, use very targeted keywords and with almost none competitors. You can also read the SEO BHW forums :)
