I doubt so ? a lot factors come ranking

what SEO , backlinks , etc etc domain age , still got competitor, quite a lot factors.....Sometime I see a bit of Luck also play a part man , like a Google update who knows push your site rank or worst down bottom ..

It's a factor, I know there's tool to manipulate CTR but never saw any real studies on the effectiveness

Huge role? Definitely not, its very well possible that it may affect, but not very much.

That post says it is not a ranking factor. However, I believe CTR is raking factor within the network where a person is using the PC. Because when you search for something clicked a link, next time if you search relevant keywords there are chances you will see the same search result. So definitely helpful for returning visitors. Let me know if I am wrong.

it plays some role but a very small one, I've never seen any results whatsoever from trying to manipulate ctr using various services.

no direct evidence has been found so far because all the experiments were done by bots using proxies etc

I have personally seen some improvements on rankings based on CTR improvement

Google usually use 2 SERP indexes/sets and they do play CTR experiments often

CTR is a user signal, contributes to the ranking. Huge? Probably, or probably not. Most likely depends on the context. Too many additional factors surrounding a click to really tell if it's the click that would be directly responsible for your site ranking or nah.

Honestly, my personal experience says no.

I've had plenty of keywords where I rank #2, but my CTR is as low as 2-3%. But I continue to stay at that position, month after month.

On the flip side, I have keywords where I am ranked #4-#5, but my CTR is >20%, and my position doesn't budge up at all.

In my opinion, any agreements that support that CTR improves rank is a matter of causation vs correlation.

I have seen evidence of the correlation between a page ranking well for a keyword with low CTR which then drops in the rankings. But this is to do with the page itself - title, description 'accidentally' ranking for a keyword that is not directly related to that page content. Not so sure it is directly CTR, but it may maybe a signal linked with a deeper understanding of the page content/context in comparison with the other ranking pages.
