does forums make money?

i have seen alot of traffic on porn or some other forums like black hat, do they make a good number of profit if the niche is good, like 10-20k a month.

i know it will be hard and time consuming but will it be worth it?

Depends what you are trying to achieve and in the time frame. Forums are for discussions about specific topics so to create an environment for such things takes time to build. In this current climate it won't be easy to start one but if the forum is relevant and and meets a need it'll always be worth it. You are the only one that knows your circumstances and only you will be able to decide if something is worth doing.

If you're starting a wakeboarding forum, you better be competing at the highest levels. If you're starting a MMO forum, you better be making $10k/day and have a shit ton of people believe you. You get the point.

its not about an easy way or not but is it a way, do they make money or they are just there in hope of making money in future?

I suppose any website can make money with traffic, just gotta have some way to monetize. Like ads for example.

Forums can make money by showing advertisements, by providing affiliate links, by selling a product, or similar ways. Not all forums exist simply to make money. Some companies set up forums as a vehicle for supporting their products, or simply to promote discussion.

You will need a niche category with a small army of people to start discussions and content.
Also, really good servers, forums with a lot of users will need a lot of computing power.

Then all you need is patients. Forums will take longer to become profitable, simply because you are relying on members to post and return regularly. This does not happen overnight. Expect this to take several years.

As for how much you could be making it could range from 100s to 1000s a month or more considering commission from sales threads, and advertising banners etc. What's important is not necessarily how much others are earning, but if something has the potential to earn. You cannot replicate what somebody else does as you don't have the same knowledge/skillset, so you could be better or not as good. Forums take real commitment as there will be difficult times, but what should decide it for you is if it's something you are particularly interested in and want to see grow. You'll probably need another source of income to start off with for upkeep payments and supplement your lack of income in the beginning.

I can assure you BHW makes more than $90 monthly on those rotating banners that people pay weekly for... much more than $90 weekly.. for 1 banner... in a rotation... with multiple rotation banners on each page...

I handle a productive forum in spanish of adult content. I have to say that this paragraph summarizes perfectly the forums business nowadays. You will have to fight hard to overtake the blogs contents. Google is not showing forum content results specially high.
