In bad economy times (like now) does Facebook lower the cost of their ads?

Like anything in business price is affected by demand.

now there is so much less demand for Facebook ads than a few months ago, will Facebook lower their cost per like??

can anyone provide insight on this?

In my country, no, the cost still the same cause people bomerdize the FB ads with health/vitamin niche

The CPM across the majority of the bigger and expensive niches didn't drop. This can differ based on countries, but the majority of the advertising money comes from tier 1 EN speaking countries, so other countries don't really count for them since they make so little.

People are now spending more time on FB, meaning the time spent on the platform increased = that increases the quality of the visitors = they are worth more compared to previous months.

What is happening doesn't mean there is less demand. The platform is pushing what is currently happening, meaning their advertising spots are 'filled' with those that will make the most out of this situation; even TV networks are pushing way more than previous months.

Insightful

In some countries, there were much fewer advertisers and because of what the auction was empty

i understand there are opportunities for some people/companies to increase ads during this time, however, when you have tons of billion dollar companies on the verge of collapse, (no doubt these are the biggest spenders on ads) no longer advertising, i would think that the OVERALL ad spend has gone down.

additionally, a historical amount of people are now unemployed. this will definitively make companies reluctant to advertise as much as before, as people have less money in their pockets now.

A lot of people have reported experiencing lower CPMs. This could theoretically lead to a decrease in CPL but there are other factors to take into account such as your GEO & niche. Only way to know for sure would be to test.
