Does everywhere require a phone number now?

Seems like almost every websites requires phone verification now. It's getting rather annoying and makes me think we are in the age where all your private information is in the hands of these major coorperations. There only seems like a few websites that haven't added these features "yet".

Yeah I hate it, I wonder what they expect people to do if they don't have a phone.

They EXPECT YOU to have a phone, thats why they are doing it.

But there are always alternatives if you don't want to give out your phone (k7 is an example )

I've yet to find a good online SMS receiving site to get by these and if it's a voice verification message instead of a text one then your really fucked.

I feel the same way about submitting my phone number on these websites. I first noticed this on Yahoo when I was trying to create a new email account a few months ago. I also noticed this on Craigslist when I was trying to post an advertisement last month, and I noticed this phone verification again on Google after I had created 3 Gmail accounts on the same day. They're supposedly trying to 'combat spam' but they're punishing the honest people who aren't spamming by implementing this new phone verification system (and if you don't have a cell phone, then tough luck).

I don't know how it is even acceptable? I mean you don't freakin have to have a phone - just don't get it but anyway there is some numbers that you could receive messages on: receive-sms-online.com (may come handy)

You're right, this is a pretty handy site. Although, even using this website, Craigslist is still a pain to deal with (no numbers outside the United States or Canada, only 3 calls per account every 12 hours, no phone numbers that require an extension, etc). It's much easier to use Backpage these days (even though it's not as widely used).
