Does engagement groups work well?

Got a total newbie question here. What is the purpose of growing these IG accounts and getting lots of followers, engagement, etc. How are you monetizing these accounts? I'm very out of touch with IG and only know it as a place where images are posted and commented on. Not sure how people are monetizing this service.

I think it really works well however you should still consider the its effect to your real followers
