Does duplicate content harm website's authority and rank?

if you have a news website it doesn't harm. All news sites use duplicate content most of the time and they rank and bank hard.

For other sites it might hurt, but 5-10% duplicate content is acceptable most of the time, so don't worry too much about it
 
Basically, it's something you should avoid if you're willing to invest seriously,
It's just a gamble, with a website it would rank and even outrank the original one and for others it would simply get you penalized,
This is the case especially for new/fresh websites

Use canonical to tell Google it is the same content so Google doesn't get confused.

Or do you mean same content on different domains?

If I write the article and publish it.

Then you copy from me then he copies from you.

And Google indexes your site first, then his site then my site.

What happens? See?

The only penalty is if I can prove I'm the author and submit a DMCA takedown on you and him.

I don't think it matters. I have seen a lot of news site do this shit and they make crazy amount of money. Not sure about other niche. For adult niche, I guess it doesn't matter too
 
Duplication a huge no in SEO.
100% hurt anything indexed with google .

Depends On Your Website niche for some websites, it's okay to have duplicate content, and for some, it can be harmful, actually, it depends on how the content is written on the website. but yep if it's the same content is in two or pages, it's confusing for google to fetch the URL, so I suggest you change your content Lil bit, use ai content writers to make this process fast because if don't have a news website then you should change it google and it's working algorithms have changed a lot, you should be very focused on what you are doing.

Google itself says there is no duplicate content penalty per se.

However, when it comes to the actual operations of Google and how they index results, there is a penalty.

The key is to make sure that your content is original as far as Google is concerned.

I don't really see it as improving your authority and rank as much as it is the price you pay to even play the game.

I hope you understand that because, if you're just cranking out duplicate content, Google is going to view your website as a webspam.

It's only a matter of time until you get deindexed.

On the other hand, if you produce original content, then you are considered for ranking.

Again, it's your entry price for ranking.

It doesn't automatically guarantee that you will rank or that your website will gain authority.

Instead, it's just the admission ticket that you have to present to play the online publishing game.

It will definitely harm your website. According to Google algorithms, you cannot use duplicate content. Your website might get ban or will not rank. Hence it will have a negative effect on da of website.
 
Duplicate content will definitely hurt your SEO from personal experience.
 
If you use the duplicate content in your site it can affect your ranking. It is always better to post the unique content related to your niche so that it will rank you higher.
